CTO Forum Bangladesh organized a day-long workshop for women media workers on cyber risks and security, news verification and personal security. 20 members of Nari Sangbadik Kendra (Centre for Women Journalists) participated in this workshop held at Software Park in the capital on Tuesday.
Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority, delivered the welcome address in the first session of the workshop via Zoom. In the first session, Nasimun Ara Haque, president of the Nari Sangbadik Kendra, highlighted the issues which should be addressed in the personal information and protection of women journalists. She also advised women media workers to always keep their phone number active and share their location with a family member if necessary.
In the second session, CTO Forum Secretary General Arfe Elahi Manik imparted hands-on training on Digital Security Act and Information Security. During this, he taught the present trainees how to verify the information received online, how to recognize and protect against malware, how to use firewalls on mobiles and PCs, and how to keep personal information confidential on social media.
CTO Forum President Tapan Kanti Sarkar said in the workshop moderated by Information Technology Editor of Nari Sangbadik Kendra Nazneen Nahar, “We are working to create awareness among them to prevent misuse of information technology as well as to build technological capacity among them. In that continuum, hackathons are organized with the participation of youth in view of national crisis or needs; Likewise, we strive to develop the skills of professionals. To that end, women journalists who are most at risk online were trained. This program will continue. In the future, members of other organizations will be trained in this regard.
