Out of a total of 3,617 sites of Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink and Teletalk in Sunamganj, Sylhet, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Habiganj and Maulvi Bazar, 2,008 sites were damaged in the floods. In the meantime, it has been possible to reactivate 1,255 sites. Work is underway to activate the remaining 753 sites.
Earlier, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited was working to set up 12 VISATs through the Army and Bangladesh Satellite Company under its own management to establish telecommunication connection including internet through Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
The Bangladesh Army has completed the installation of 6 VSAT Hubs at places including Sylhet Hi-Tech Park, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Sunamganj Circuit House, Gobindganj, Doara Bazar and Dirai. Two more VSAT Hubs will be set up at Jaintapur and Goain Ghat on Wednesday.
BSCL has set up 7 VSAT Hubs in Sylhet Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sylhet Sadar Upazila Office, Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner’s Bungalow, Bishwarampur and South Sunamganj Upazila Office. Besides, establishment of VSAT Hub in Jaintapur, Chhatak, Jagannathpur, Shalla and Dirai upazilas will be completed on Wednesday.
BSCL has completed the establishment of VSAT Hub in Netrokona Deputy Commissioner’s Office. VSAT Hub connection work will be completed at Khaliajuri Upazila office on Wednesday. More VSAT equipment has been provided to the Bangladesh Army. Among the supplied VSAT hubs, 4 sets have been sent to Mymensingh Cantonment.
