Jessore University of Science and Technology- JUST has provided free physiotherapy treatment to more than one and a half hundred people of different classes and professions in the vicinity of the university. The patients have been given free essential medicines as well.
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (PTR) organized this free physiotherapy medical camp as part of its social responsibility at Dr. M. R. Khan Medical Center of JUST on Wednesday morning. Free physiotherapy medical camp was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain.
At the opening ceremony Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said that the physiotherapy department of Jessore University of Science and Technology is working for the marginalized people who do not get physiotherapy medical services. Physiotherapy treatment is needed not only for the poor but also for the rich and the poor at a certain age. In case of various physical problems for which physiotherapy is required, there is no need to take medicine after getting treatment and advice from the physiotherapist. Physiotherapy has become an urgent issue worldwide. He said, “I believe this section of JUST will come closer to the people and help them.” Such free medical camps and workshops will help people”, he hoped.
While speaking at the opening ceremony, the chairman of the PTR department Dr. Md. Feroz Kabir said that the main objective of the department is to bring this medical service to the doorsteps of the general public. The foundation of physiotherapy in Bangladesh was laid by Bangabandhu. Our first health camp was held in this department in 2019. There are plans to hold another health camp next August. JUST Physiotherapy Department is not only for Jessore region, but also for all other people of the country with pain, disability or going through services for traumatic problems. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started the physiotherapy department with his own hands. In 1972, the Department of Physiotherapy was started the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) under the Medical Faculty of Dhaka University. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul launched the Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council for the registration and licensing of physiotherapy doctors. Today’s free health camp will provide services to people with arthritis, paralysis and disability. At present the department has Clinical Services. Where low cost medical care is provided. Completely free treatment is given here to the elderly, freedom fighters and the poor. The department is working for the general public in Jessore region. People with paralysis and disabilities. In the free physiotherapy medical camp, 12 specialist doctors treated more than one and a half hundred patients with arthritis pain, paralysis, stroke and trauma problems, neurological problems or sports injuries in different sessions. It is to be noted that the department has already been organizing such free health camps. The main objective of this department is to ensure proper and quality physiotherapy treatment. Also anyone in the department can take physiotherapy treatment at low cost (excluding holidays) if they want. Regular patients are served in the department from 9 am to 5 pm. The staff of the volunteer organization ‘Sahayak‘ of JUST and the students studying in different years of the department provided overall support to the free health camp.
