The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formulated a ‘Standard Guideline’ for skill-based education in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the undergraduate level of the university. This guideline will be very helpful in updating the curriculum of the university on CSE, IT, ICE, ICT.
A copy of ‘Standard Guideline’ was handed over to Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, UGC Chairman (Additional Responsibility) at a ceremony held at UGC on Wednesday, May 18.
It was informed on the occasion that this guideline has been prepared in collaboration with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and JICA, a development agency of the Government of Japan. The guideline has been formulated by a seven-member committee on information technology education in the country headed by UGC member Prof. Md. Sajjad Hossain.
Bangladesh Computer Council Director Engineer Muhammad Enamul Kabir, JICA Bangladesh Representative Hiroki Watanabe, BUET Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Director of Information Management, Communication and Training of UGC Mohammad Makshudur Rahman Bhuiyan and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum commented on the occasion saying, “There is no alternative to technology education to make the young generation of the country fit for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This guideline will serve as a benchmark for modern information technology education. UGC will provide necessary advice to the universities of the country to implement this guideline. If the information technology education curriculum is updated in accordance with these guidelines, Bangladeshi graduates will be ahead in the global competitive labor market.”
Professor Dr. Sajjad Hossain said that if the curriculum of information technology education is formulated according to this guideline, the lack of knowledge of students in ICT sector will be reduced. This will enhance the quality of ICT education. This will create skilled human resources in the ICT sector and increase the demand for Bangladeshi graduates in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Bangladeshi graduates will do well in various competitive exams including ITEE, the national standard for quality control of IT professionals in Japan.
It may be noted that, UGC, BCC and JICA are working together to create tens of thousands of IT engineers in Japan, increase the skills of IT engineers and raise awareness.
