In 2018, Spotify launched an app called ‘Stations’ to give car drivers a radio experience. Initially after the unveiling of the Android version, the app was brought to the iOS version in 2019. However, this long-running experimental app is finally going to shut down. Engadget said that the app will be closed on May 16.
The Stations app could be used for free and for a monthly fee. The song was played immediately after the user entered the app. In addition, users could switch between the stations of their choice.
However, it did not have the opportunity to select a specific song or artist. When returning to a station, the user would start again from the last song he was listening to at that station.
In a statement, Spotify said, “The stations will be closed on May 16. The stations you created will also be gone. However, you can still enjoy Spotify with the Stations account. You will find millions of songs and podcasts, including a list of your favorite songs.”
The Spotify app now has almost all the features that are available in the Stations app. Users can easily transfer their favorite stations to this app. And so Spotify doesn’t feel the need to keep the stations app separate.
