The country’s first cyber range has been set up on the campus of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) at Mirpur cantonment in Dhaka. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the cyber surveillance and security lab on the third floor of the 3rd tower of the campus. During this time, he advised the MIST authorities to conduct cyber drills on regular basis.
Apart from MIST Rector Major General Md. Wahid-uz-Zaman and Head of Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering Abdur Razzak, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Dr. Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Director of BGD e Govt CERT Mosaddek Barkatullah were also present at the time.
After a meeting with MIST teachers in the morning, through unveiling the foundation stone, the state minister inaugurated the new lab through a special prayer. After entering the lab, the state minister was given an idea of its activities.
At the same time, it is reported that it is possible to monitor and diagnose through 33 simultaneous virtual attacks from servers in this range. Of these, 16 are general, 14 are advanced and 3 are incubated systems. There are 18 terminals to detect real-time attacks. From there, with training, cyber armies will be able to thwart attacks.
The cyber range was launched at the initiative of the ICT department and in collaboration with the Digital Services Agency. At the end of the inauguration, a presentation was made on the Apache shutdown.
