Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Anwar Hossain said, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united people of all walks of life for the independence and liberation of Bangladesh. Our independence is the result of a long struggle. The independence of this country did not come all in a sudden after a declaration from a corner.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain commented at the discussion meeting titled ‘Historical Leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Development of the Country in Golden Jubilee’ at the gallery of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building on Saturday afternoon.
Professor. Md. Anwar Hossain said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, since the partition of the country in 1947, united this nation for independence in every possible way. He got the result of that unity in the election of 1970. In this election, he achieved the mandate to lead the nation. In the light of that mandate, he declared independence. After nine months of bloody conflict, our independence was achieved. He said that this country has become independent with the help of Bangabandhu. Hopefully, the youth of this country will wake up at the directions of his daughter Sheikh Hasina as well. We will remain united under the leadership of People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina and be determined to free this country from hunger and poverty.
Dr. Md. Alam Hossain, JUST Student Counseling and Guidance Director presided over the discussion meeting. JUST Treasurer Professor Dr. Abdul Majid, the most senior professor Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Dean Professor Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib, Professor Dr. Saibur Rahman Mollah, Professor Dr. Md. Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Dr. Md. Tanvir Islam, Dr. Sumon Chandra Mohant and Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan, Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, General Secretary of the teachers’ association Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid, President of the Employees Association. Shawkat Islam Sabuj, Chhatra League leader Biplob De Shanto, Afikur Rahman Ayon, Sohail Rana, Shila Akhter and others delivered their speeches on the occasion. The meeting was conducted by the Assistant Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Md. Shaheen Sarkar.
The celebration of the Independence and National Day of JUST began with the hoisting of the national flag and the university flag in front of the administrative building of the university at sunrise. At 9 o’clock in the morning at the Independence Pillar located in Manihar of Jessore city with the teachers-students, officials and employees, on behalf of Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Treasurer Prof. Md. Abdul Majid laid a wreath. At 10 in the morning, the mural of Bangabandhu located in Bakultala of Jessore city, Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain laid a wreath at the mural with the the participation of teachers, students, officials and employees. After that the leaders and workers of Jashore University of Science and Technology Chhatra League laid wreaths at the mural of Bangabandhu. At the same time, the leaders of Jashore University of Science and Technology Teachers’ Association, Officers’ Association and Employees’ Association laid wreaths at the mural of the Father of the Nation.
After Johar, prayers were offered at the Central Mosque of the University for the forgiveness of the departed souls of the martyrs of the Great War of Independence. Maulana Mohammad Akramul Islam, a Senior Pesh Imam at the central mosque of the university conducted the prayers. Pleasant fireworks display has been organized on the occasion of the great Independence and National Day at night. Apart from this, various buildings of the campus have been decorated with lights to mark the day.
