RAB-7 has arrested Nasir Uddin, a VoIP trader in Chattagram, along with a large quantity of illegal VoIP equipment and 3,000 Teletalk SIMs used in the case. In this regard, Assistant Director of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Kakoli De Sunny said, it is being investigated why Teletalk SIM is being used more in illegal VoIP business.
According to RAB-7 Director Lt. Col. M.A. Yusuf informed at a press conference on Tuesday (March 8), RAB raided the local Ismam Tower and recovered a huge amount of illegal VoIP equipment worth Tk 82 lakh along with six sophisticated machines. Nasir was arrested along with three thousand Teletalk SIMs.
Detainee Nasir Uddin used to collect these mobile SIMs through various agents illegally using the national identity cards of marginalized people, he said.
He further said that Nasir Uddin was doing illegal VoIP business in Panchlaish area of the city using sophisticated digital antenna and other machines.
They also said that despite the fact that two crore minutes of international calls are made legally in the country, but about three and a half crore minutes of calls come through illegal VoIP.
