Taiwan’s United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) has announced plans to invest $ 5 billion to increase chip production capacity in Singapore. The world’s fourth-largest chip maker has announced plans to deliver orders to customers on time amid global chip shortages. News Nikkei Asia.
UMC manufactures chips on contract basis. The company’s customer list includes semiconductor giants such as Samsung, MediaTek and Qualcomm. UMC is going to set up another new chip factory in addition to the existing manufacturing plant in Singapore.
The new factory will produce 22 to 28 nanometer technology chips. According to UMC, the new factory will start production by the end of 2024. The factory will have the capacity to manufacture 30,000 wafers per month.
UMCO was added to the list when almost all the chip makers in the world were announcing investment growth.
