Engineer Saifuddahar (Saif Shahid), the creator of the first Bengali commercial software ‘Shahidlipi’, passed away. He was 74 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He had been suffering from various physical complications, including Alzheimer’s, for several years.
Munim Hossain, an expatriate physicist and his near one living in the United States, said that he died on Sunday, local time in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He informed that the funeral of the of Saifuddahar Shahid will be held on Tuesday at one o’clock in the afternoon at the Islamic Center of New Mexico (1100 Yale Boulevard, SE Albuquerque).
Mostafa Jabbar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and father of Bijoy Bangla, Shahid Ul Munir, President of Bangladesh Computer Society and other well-known people in the field of technology have expressed deep grief over the death of Saifuddahar Shahid.
In his condolence message, the Minister said that Saifuddahar would remain immortal to the Bengali speaking people as a guide. As long as Bengali is used in technology, he will always be remembered.
The Minister expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Saifuddahar Shaheed, a graduate in mechanical engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was a cadet of Fauzdarhat Cadet College. He was the Managing Director of Beximco Computers. Then he started his own company in Dhaka called National Computers. ‘Shahidlipi’ was marketed from this institution. He immigrated to the United States in the early nineties. Then the journey of Shahidlipi stopped.
Saifuddahar Shahid was the founding vice president of Bangladesh Computer Society, the first organization in the country’s IT business sector. On 20 May 1979, he initiated to form the Bangladesh Amateur Radio League (BARL). Munim Hossain, his colleague in this organization, said that Saifuddahar Shaheed is also the main pioneer in the introduction of Bangladesh Amateur Radio.
BARL became a member of the International Amateur Radio Union in 1982 by the initiative of Saifuddahar Shahid. Then on April 29, 1991, Amateur Radio was launched in Bangladesh. Saifuddahar Shaheed is the first amateur radio license holder in the country (call sign S21A).
