The parliamentary committee has suggested the enactment of timely laws to take effective steps to curb rumors and untruths on social media. The ministry has been advised to enact the law at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on information ministry held at the parliament building on Wednesday (January 5th).
The committee also decided to hold a meeting with social media representatives to seek advice on how to block controversial content, rumors and untrue news on social media, including YouTube. It has been decided to invite them to the committee meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Hasanul Haque Inu, chairman of the parliamentary committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Hasan Mahmud, Kazi Keramat Ali, Begum Simin Hossain (Rimi), Saimum Sarwar Kamal and Mamta Hena Lovely took part in the meeting.
According to Parliament Secretariat sources, the meeting was directed to present a report on the activities of Bangladesh Film and Television Institute at the next meeting. In addition, a three-member sub-committee was formed to present a recommendation on the overall activities and future activities of the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute to the Parliamentary Standing Committee within two months.
It is recommended to store the history and heritage of Bangladesh in digital format in the central data center of the government and to upload the books stored by the Press Institute of Bangladesh on social media as well as to study the liberation struggle from 1947 to 1971.
