Social media Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has resigned as chief executive officer (CEO) of Twitter. Twitter’s current chief technical officer, Parag Agarwal, is taking his place. News Reuters.
“I have decided to resign,” Jack Dorsey said in a statement. Because, I believe, Twitter is ready to take on new leadership outside of the founders.”
Jack Dorsey has been the CEO of Twitter and Payment Firm Square since its inception in 2006. “As CEO of Twitter, I deeply trust Parag. What he has been doing for the last 10 years is ‘Transformational’. Now is the time to take the lead.”
Dorsey will be on the Twitter board for the next six months. During this time, he will assist in the transformation of responsibilities. The co-founder will then leave Twitter.
Over the past six years, Dorsey has faced a number of unexpected situations during his tenure as CEO of two leading technology companies, Twitter and Square. He was the CEO of Twitter from its inception until 2006. After Dick Costolo stepped down in 2015, he took over as CEO again.
Meanwhile, Parag Agarwal, of Indian descent, started working on Twitter in 2011.
