The Bangladesh Open Data Summit has started with the presentation of the availability of open data in various public and private sectors of the country and the importance of its possible use for the welfare of the citizens. The virtual conference brings together open data producers, users and new innovators on one platform.
The conference, organized for the first time, is organized by UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy.
On the opening day of the conference on Saturday (October 23), a webinar was held on the availability of open data in the country. Kawsar Hossain Sajib of a2i was the keynote speaker on the thematic subject of open data.
He highlighted the use and format of open data in the country in a webinar presentation hosted by Dataful’s entrepreneur Palash Dutt.
Alamgir Hossain, Joint Director, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, spoke on SDG Data Tracker. Shakeel Ahmed, Data Curator of Dataful, pointed out the limitations of BANBEIS in Open Education Data.
Shah Mohammad Ahsan Habib, Independent Director, IPDC Finance, also spoke on the availability of economic data.
The three-day long conference was attended by a2i, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development, Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management and South Asia Center for Media Development.
Participating foreign organizations include Dataleads of India, Freedom Forum of Nepal, US-based Open Development Initiative and DW Academy of Germany.
