Xiaomi has set up a factory in Bangladesh with the aim of exporting not only smartphones but also lifestyle products like smart shoes. This innovative internet brand has started manufacturing activities here with 100% foreign investment in the interest of the Xiaomi fans. The Bhogla factory in Gazipur will manufacture 3 million smartphones every year. And one thousand people will be employed here. The 55,000-square-foot factory maintains international methods and standards of manufacturing.
Xiaomi Bangladesh Country Manager Ziauddin Chowdhury said this at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday.
At that time, the Redmi 9A smartphone made in Bangladesh was unveiled.
Taking part in the inaugural function, Salman Fazlur Rahman, Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister, called upon all to make efforts to make Bangladesh a ‘birthplace of technology products’. He said Xiaomi was doing exactly what the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wanted. I hope Xiaomi will be in the top 10 companies in Bangladesh. We have enough faith in young leaders and companies like Xiaomi. All such new generation companies and entrepreneurs are the only success of Bangladesh. We believe that this partnership will create more employment opportunities for young engineers in the country. The country will establish a world-class electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
BTRC Acting Chairman Subrata Roy Maitra said, “Human life is a mixture of past-present and future. To that end, Bangladesh is becoming a unique investment destination for future generation-oriented products.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said Bangladesh is the fourth most attractive place for investment.
Speaking as the special guest on the occasion, he said that after China, Korea and Japan, if there is an investment hub in any country, it is Bangladesh. In this case, we consider Xiaomi as our worthy partner for investing in Bangladesh. And the government is giving them the opportunity to do research and development in Bangladesh as well as manufacturing. If Xiaomi does R&D in Bangladesh, it will be offered a 10% cash incentive. On top of this, if the products manufactured here are exported, another 10% incentive will be given.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar greeted the gathering in a video message. In his speech, he said the mobile sets manufactured in 14 factories in the country are now meeting more than 65 per cent of the total demand of the country. Eighty percent of the demand for smartphones is being produced in the country. The 5G mobile set produced by the factory in Bangladesh is going to America. We are exporting IoT devices to Saudi Arabia. Software is being exported from Bangladesh to 80 countries of the world.
