Eventually, the time to withdraw the cache server was extended to 5 months to avoid potential customer suffering. As a result, all ISPs will be able to have cache servers in their network till December 31.
However, within seven days, BTRC will have to ensure that all ISP operators other than Nationwide ISPs withdraw their cache servers.
On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission issued a new notification canceling the previous directive.
Earlier, in the interest of national security, the BTRC had instructed on February 1, that for a period of six months, only Nationwide ISPs (departmental, district and police station level) could have cache servers. The time was given till July 31 to implement the directive.
Disappointed with the BTRC’s directive, the ISPAB leaders recently held a virtual meeting with the BTRC chairman. ISPAB gave a presentation in front of BTRC at the meeting. It requested all ISPs to be given an equal opportunity (keeping cache servers). They also said to have equal opportunities for all as it is now.
Expressing solidarity with their demand, the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Subscribers Association also urged the Telecommunications Minister and the BTRC chief to take the matter seriously.
