Meta plans to introduce advertisements on its newer social platform, Threads, at the beginning of next year, according to a report from The Information, citing three reliable sources. Launched in July last year as a rival to X (formerly Twitter), Threads aimed to attract users amid the turbulence under Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared that Threads has reached 275 million monthly active users, demonstrating significant growth since its debut. According to reports, starting in January, a select group of advertisers will be allowed to create and publish ads on Threads, with this initiative managed by Instagram’s advertising division.
Despite the move to introduce ads, Meta’s CFO, Susan Li, expressed that Threads is not expected to become a major revenue contributor until at least 2025. Instead, the company remains focused on rolling out new features to enhance the user experience.
