Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission got another new commissioner after the chairman. Mahmud Hossain was appointed by the President on Thursday under Section 7(1) and 9(2) of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001. And through this appointment, the quota of 5 commissioners in the BTRC rules has been filled.
Under the leadership of Newly appointed Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdadul Bari, the other two members of the commission are Vice Chairman Md. Aminul Haque and Commissioner of Finance, Accounts and Revenue Department DR. Mushfiq Mannan Chowdhury.
The newly appointed commissioner served as advisor to the Chairperson of Grameen Telecom Trust. He has over three decades of experience in telecommunications policy and digital infrastructure. In between, he spent more than a decade as the C-suite of Grameenphone, a subsidiary of the Telenor Group.
Mahmood Hossain holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, MBA from Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University and Master’s degree from Concordia University, Canada.
In the order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration’s contract and foreign recruitment branch, he has been appointed in the telecommunication engineering category for the next three years on the condition of severing working relationships with other institutions and organizations.
