Rumors are being spread widely on Facebook amid the situations created surrounding the quota reform movement. Many people are confused. Most of these rumors have been circulating since August 3 midnight. Two rumors have gone viral in the dark of night. One of these is about creating confusion about gathering at Shaheed Minar. The other is spreading derogatory false information about the organizers who are leading the movement.
There are posts related to mass gatherings and occupying the Central Shahid Minar of Dhaka University even at night, but there was no gathering there at night on the ground.
On the other hand, in another rumor, it was posted that, “RAB-10 recovered 2 crore taka from the house of 1 of the 6 coordinators.”
Facebook users are also seen making various comments on these posts. In such a situation, experts say, the people from vested groups want to achieve their own interests by spreading rumors in any movement. A lot of rumors are spreading.
Don’t spread rumors yourself. Also don’t share other people’s rumors as a troll. As a result, they are advised not to trust and share any information without verification.
Society and crime expert of Dhaka University Dr. Tauhidul Haque says that in any movement, ill motivated vested circles want to achieve their own interests by spreading rumors. You have to stand against them. These rumors are fueling the movement, the conflict is increasing in the country, and the loss of life is also happening. He said, such rumors create chaos in the society, which is a threat to the state. So, he advises not to share any news without verifying it.
Director of Center for Critical and Qualitative Studies Sumon Rahman said, “If I am in favor of an event, then we immediately believe it when we get any information that supports that event.” Even if it is false, people forget to verify it. Someone instantly shares and likes and comments. So, he advises to wait a little before sharing any information immediately.
