Google’s cache server has been opened from Thursday evening to bring back the good experience of using the internet across the country. At the same time, BTRC has instructed the IIGs to ensure that Facebook, TikTok, Akamai and Bison CDN are not active in the network.
As a result, YouTube, Cloud Fair, and mail services will be better after Google cache server is operational. All Google services and the speed will be improved to a large extent, the stakeholders think. However, as other CDNs are closed, it will take some time to return to swift speed and they thought the pressure on the country’s bandwidth will increase.
According to the source, this directive was given after a meeting with the officials of the engineering and operation department of the organization with Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, at BTRC Bhaban. It has been decided to shut down these servers until a meeting is held with Facebook and Twitter.
A BTRC official said on condition of anonymity that IIG has been instructed to start all Google cache servers. All Google services are included in the cache server. But Facebook is closed. Internet speed will increase when Google’s cache servers are up and running. For example, it takes time to download from Singapore. Instead, downloading directly in the country increases the speed.
Talking to the sector concerned, it is known that Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger have been installed on the Meta servers in different places in the country; Bison has social media content including TikTok, Akamai has Free Fire, PubG, various web content, Cloud Fair. These cache servers under IIG improve the user’s internet experience. Country information is matched from the country server.
The ISP has around 65 Google and Meta servers across the country. Akamai and Bison have no more than 15 in total. However, as the servers other than Google are running, the pressure on the bandwidth of the Internet will increase.
Therefore, ISPAB president Imdadul Haque commented that the service quality will be smoother than before due to the opening of Google servers. He said that the burden of 3000 Gbps bandwidth of 1 crore 10 lakh mobile subscribers in the country has also fallen on the 350 Gbps bandwidth of broadband internet. So, the speed may seem low as broadband does not have that much bandwidth.
However, the ISPAB president hopes that since all the services of Google have been launched, the Internet situation will gradually return to normal.
