On the 59th birthday, ‘Russell, come back.’
The nation is celebrating the 3rd National Sheikh Russell Day with celebrations, inaugurations and award ceremonies. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 9 smart projects and inaugurated the foundation stone of 6 projects by swapping smart cards virtually at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Wednesday morning.
KM Shahid Ulla, General Secretary of Sheikh Russell Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad (National Children and Adolescent Council) delivered the welcome speech. A child speaker Amirah Nair Chowdhury also spoke at the event. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Organizational Secretary of Sheikh Russell Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad gave a welcome speech.
While speaking as the special guest, Dr. Chaudhuri Nafiz Sarafat Chowdhury, Chairman of the Sheikh Russell National Children’s Council informed that education scholarships have been introduced to 100 underprivileged people this year.
ICT Division Secretary Md. Shamsul Arefin said, we are now working on quantum computing. All unfulfilled dreams were killed by killing Russell. To fulfill that dream, we have to make citizens with information technology knowledge.
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak presided over the event. He unveiled the book cover edited by him titled Smaraner Aborone (Under the veil of remembrance) commemorating Sheikh Russel. Former Indian army officer Ashok Tara remembered Sheikh Russel Day in a video message.
The Minister of State for ICT called for the prosecution of Russell’s killers who are still out of the country. He said, those who speak about human rights should come forward to ensure the punishment of this inhuman cruelty trial.
Then the gold medals were handed over.

Azmain Sadat, An Nafiur and Sultana in Education category; Nitun Zira, Naimul Islam Ratul, Munatasir, Sabuj, Rituraj, Millennium Star School, Shamima Sultana in Children with special needs category.
Those who got the Smart Bangladesh Gold Medals:
Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Chowdhury; Masood Alam for E-Learning; and Bangladesh Police. WE President Nasima Akhtar Nisha; Arif Iftekhar Mahmud of Chattogram University, Rice Research Institute, Mohammad Shaheen, NTMC, Tech Garlic, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Abul Bashar Fakhruzzaman, Shaheen Zaman of Cox’s Bazar; Anisur Rahman from Dhaka the and the Deputy Commissioners of Panchagarh and Thakurgaon.
