The police arrested three members of the gang who took money from people by hacking the person’s account after collecting the information of the person in the name of solving the problem related to the Imo app. They are Ranju Ahmed (22), Md. Fazle Rabbi (20) and Md. Rajan Ali alias Imo Rajan (22).
DMP’s Mirpur Model Police Station arrested these three members of the fraud gang with the help of information technology. They were arrested on Saturday (May 27) from Lalpur of Natore and Bagha police station area of Rajshahi district, said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station.
He said that the arrested Rajan is known as Imo Rajan to the locals. He extorts money from people through Imo in a novel way. Rajan opened many groups on Imo under different names by solving Imo related problems for cheating. Anyone who joins this group is targeted. A large number of sticker messages were then sent to his Imo from various numbers in various ways. At some point, the number got hung up due to such a large number of messages. Then the person asks for help in the group. Rajan then talks to the man and asks for access to his ID to solve the ‘problem’. In this case an OTP goes to the customer; through that OTP others also get access. By entering the Imo, Rajan reads all the Imo’s messages and gets information about his relatives. Then to his relative by sending messages like ‘I am in danger, send money’ ‘Mother is sick, send money’ 5 thousand, 10 thousand and so on,
