At present, international institutions like Visa, Master Card are providing debit and credit card services to the country’s banks for domestic and international transactions. But this time Bangladesh is going to launch its own debit card.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder gave this information while inaugurating the ‘Banking on Digital Transformation’ conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Wednesday.
The governor said that institutions such as Visa, Master Card and debit and credit card services in the country’s banks are taking a large amount of foreign currency from the country as dividends every year. If we launch our own debit card, our dependence on foreign institutions will be reduced.
He also said that non-performing loans and lack of internal governance are major problems in the banking sector. Digital transformation, practice of ethics in banking activities, training of bank employees and good governance will play a role in solving this problem. Implementation of banking policies and strong role of top executives of banks can solve the problem of defaulted loans.
Abdur Rauf Talukder said, currently most of the banks are using core banking solution software. As the fourth industrial revolution approaches, the use of artificial intelligence in the banking sector will increase.
ABB Chairman and BRAC Bank MD and CEO Selim R. F. Hossain, ABB’s Board of Governors and MDs and CEOs of various banks were present.
