Tesla has started selling the Chinese-made Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in the Canadian market. The first shipment has already arrived in North America from the Shanghai factory. News Reuters.
According to Tesla’s website, the Model Y and Model 3 vehicles are ready for immediate delivery in British Columbia. The code shows the cars are manufactured at the Gigafactory in Shanghai.
Tesla’s China representative and US head office did not comment on this matter. It usually lessens costs if the companies produce cars in Chinese factories. The Chinese-made Model Y costs 61,990 Canadian dollars in Canada.
Tesla’s move will allow it to sell cars manufactured in its California and Texas factories to the US market. At the same time, another new market will open up for the Shanghai factory. Last year, half of Tesla’s total production was made in the Shanghai factory.
Cars manufactured at Tesla’s Shanghai factory are sold domestically in China and in other markets. Tesla has recently faced competition in the EV market in China.
