The High Court has sought to know the current whereabouts of Sohail Rana, the dismissed Inspector of Police (Investigation) of Banani Police Station and a patron of e-commerce company E-Orange. At the same time, the court ordered to tell what steps the government has taken to bring him back. The home ministry has been asked to inform the matter within the next two weeks.
On Sunday, the High Court bench of Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat gave the order. Deputy Attorney General Saifuddin Khaled heard on behalf of the state in the court. Barrister Abdul Qayyum Liton heard on behalf of the writ. Earlier on January 29, the High Court ordered to take steps to bring back the dismissed police officer Sohail Rana of E-Orange. After this order, the state informed that Sohail Rana was detained in an Indian prison. He was on the run after getting bail.
On behalf of 547 customers who were defrauded by buying products of 77 croretaka from E-Orange, six customers named, Md. Afzal Hossain, Md. Arafat Ali, Md. Tariqul Alam, Sakibul Islam, Rana Khan and Md. Habibullah Zahid filed a writ in the High Court in March last year.
The writ is sought the E-Orange owner Sonia Mehzabeen and her brother Sohail Rana, Bithi Akhtar and others associated with E-Orange, including the banks, along with instructions to form a committee with competent officials of Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) to investigate who and how much personal assets.
After the preliminary hearing of the writ, the High Court ordered an investigation into the allegations of cheating customers, embezzlement and money laundering against E-Orange. ACC, BFIU and CIID have been asked to report within four months.
Also, why the failure and inaction of the defendants to take legal action against Banani Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sohail Rana, Sonia Mehjabeen and Bithi Akhter, who are involved with e-Orange in customer safety, protection, should not be declared without legal authority and take legal action against them. The High Court issued a rule to find out why the order will not be given.
The ruling also sought to know why the money should not be distributed or ordered to be distributed among the defrauded customers including the writ petitioner after recovering the money from Sohail Rana, Sonia Mehzabeen and Bithi Akhtar.
