SANOG39 and bdNOG16 conference started
The conference of South Asian Network Operators Group – SANOG39 and the 16th conference of bdNOG started at the Pan-pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka for the sixth time. SANOG Chair Gaurav Raj Upadhyay presented the special award to the Apricot chair Dr. Phillips Smith at the conference. The speakers expressed their conviction to establish South Asian countries as digitally strong in the world.
In the opening speech of the conference on Tuesday morning, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mostafa Jabbar, expressed hope that the networking disability in the country will be transformed into ability.
Raphael Ho, the Head of Interconnect Engineering and Operations of Digital Age DC presented the keynote at the conference.
Technical expert Sumon Ahmed Sabir conducted the conference while SANOG president Rupesh Shrestha, bdNOG president Rashed Amin Bidyut and ISPAB president Imdadul Haque delivered their welcome speeches.
Addressing the chief guest at the event, the Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s far-reaching vision and efficient leadership, traditional services are being transformed into digital services. 100% of train tickets have been sold online this Eid. There has been a complete digital transformation of land management. This transformation is possible only through the participation of all concerned. Internet has become the logistics of life. But for digital security we also need to focus on network security. For this, BTRC has imposed the obligation to import IPv4 and IPv6 enabled routers at the same time.
The minister also said that people of the country are now preparing themselves for Smart Bangladesh even though, some of them made fun of Digital Bangladesh. This type of conference will contribute to the skill development of our engineers. So we must strive to develop the latest technology skills through training.
It was informed in the event that 11 network engineers including 4 from Bangladesh were given fellowships in the conference. As part of the conference, a series of workshops of network engineers will be held at Hotel Intercontinental for the next four days. 300 engineers from 6 South Asian countries are participating in it.
BTRC Chairman Shyamsunder Sikder said, this five-day event will double the skills of the participants and play an important role in realizing the Smart Bangladesh vision.
Highlighting the contribution of Bangladeshi engineers, the APNIC Secretary General Paul Wilson emphasized the implementation of IPv6 and said that all other types of technical cooperation including training will continue in the implementation of IPv6.
A statistic shows that Bangladesh is the most lagging behind in the implementation of IPv6 among SAARC countries that is only 5%. Whereas the other countries have advanced about 70 percent.
In his speech, Paul referred to the contribution of Bangladeshis in various activities of APNIC and mentioned Suman Ahmed Sabir, an EC member of APNIC. During this time, he mentioned about the 4th tier data center of the country and talked about various issues of the 5th tier.
Babul Alam, Additional Secretary, Department of Posts and Telecommunications, and Abdur Rahim Khan, IBPC Coordinator, Ministry of Commerce spoke among others.
In his welcome address, the ISPAB President Imdadul Haque said, SANOG39 is expected to be an informative event in the development and expansion of a strong and secure Internet infrastructure. The participants from home and abroad participating in various sessions will be able to build a sustainable Internet ecosystem in the Asia Pacific region by applying the knowledge gained from SANOG39 in their respective countries.
In the technical session at the end of the conference’s opening ceremony, Anurag Bhatia of Hurricane Electric presented the IPv6 deployment strategies with open source self-hosted VPNs. Then Hasanuzzaman Ashiq of Fiber@Home shed light on the concept and application of Telemetry Visualization through TIG. Abu Sufian of ADN Telecom also discussed the Microtik POP interface through Zabbix and Grafana. At the end of this episode, Jonathan Mataosek of DE-Six Frankfurt presents the insight challenges of proxy agent function IXP network.
