The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will disburse loan worth Tk. 1,070 crore to Bangladesh for the development of Bangladesh’s socio-economic system by creating graduates who are capable of leading the country in the IT and ITS sector and creating opportunities for modern research. Bangladesh University Grants Commission will implement this project under ‘Improving Computer and Software Engineering Tertiary Education Project’.
Dhaka University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Jashore University of Science and Technology-JUST have been identified as project areas.
The total cost of the project for the implementation of the project for the period of March 2023 to June 2028 is 1 thousand 219 crores 80 lakhs. The remaining amount will be met from the government treasury.
Planning Secretary Satyajit Karmakar said that the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution will be met by establishing a more relevant and up-to-date higher education system based on quality, equal opportunities and skills for computer science and engineering information technology subjects through the implementation of this project. For this, construction and renovation of three multi-storey buildings, research grants, 5 thousand 197 scholarships, interest during implementation, 10 thousand 34 computers and accessories will be purchased in the project area. 770 domestic consultants and 360 international consultants, 2 thousand 645 local training and 75 foreign training and 19 seminar conferences will be organized in this regard.
